5 Things You Need to do to Keep Rodents Away From Your Christmas Dinner
With the holiday season revving up, it can be hard to think about pest issues until they've already entered your home and eaten all of Santa's cookies. Just because it's cold out, it doesn't mean rodents will go away and wait until Spring. These pests don't hibernate, and they hate the cold. But you know what they love? Your warm, cozy home, filled with holiday treats.
5 Things You Need to do to Keep Rodents Away From Your Christmas Dinner
1. Exclusion, Exclusion, Exclusion. This is a fancy word for making sure every possible hole and gap is blocked properly. Is there a slight gap under your door? Openings into your crawlspace? Inspect your home to find any possible entry points. Mice can fit through a hole the size of a ballpoint pen! No hole is too small for these pests!
2. Keep Your Lawn Tidy. Leaves piles, woodpiles, and other yard debris can provide perfect nests for rodents. Keep your lawn free of these things, or you might have to ask a rat for their rent money.
3. Keep Your Home Crumb-Free. We know this may be obvious, but make sure your home is free of any stray food. When I baked cookies with my grandma during the holidays, I wasn't the best at keeping all the ingredients ON the counter. With that being said, after each baking or cooking session, pay closer attention to make sure all crumbs, sugar, etc. is gone
4. Bird Feeders are a no-no. To put it simply, rodents love bird food, so we do not recommend bird feeders. The bird food is like candy to them, and you don't want your home to become their candy store.
