How Do I Know if I Have Mold?

Unfortunately, southeast Alaska is the ideal climate for mold growth. With the amount of rain we have seen, your home's potential to have mold has increased with every stormy day. So, how do you know you have mold in your home?

5 Signs You Have Mold in Your Home

  1. Mold odor. Some molds don't produce a smell, but many do. If you notice a persistent musty, stale odor, there might be mold in your home.

  2. Signs of Water damage. Any long-term moisture in your home will inevitably cause mold to form. If you have any water stains, bubbling or cracking of paint or wallpaper, or discoloration of floors, walls, or ceiling, you're likely dealing with a mold producing problem.

  3. Water Leaks. Mold growth from a leak isn't always noticeable, especially when hidden behind a wall. If you know of a leak in your home, it's imperative to get the leak fixed immediately.

  4. Visible Mold Growth. Mold can appear white and thread-like. Other types of mold are gray-brown, gray-green, or black and can be in clusters of small spots. If you see mold growth in your home, call us to test the mold to understand what type of mold. Many molds can be toxic!
